Energy Enigma-A Trilemma

The Indian Institutes of Technology Alumni Canada (IITAC), in collaboration with PanIIT-USA, hosted  the PanIIT 2014 International Conference in Toronto, from June 6 to 8, 2014. Over a thousand business professionals, technocrats, innovators, entrepreneurs and government officials from Canada, the United States, India and other countries participated . The conference theme was “Innovate, Integrate and Transform-Let’s Co-Create Our Future. His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, addressed the participants at the International Conference  held at the International Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre, in Toronto, on Saturday, June 7, 2014.

The Governor General spoke on how educators and innovators from Canada, India and the United States have to work together to achieve both excellence and equality of opportunity-a key objective in building smarter, more caring and prosperous societies.

In the plenary I gave speech with presentation on ‘ Energy Enigma -A Trilemma’ . The core message was : energy is enabler in development, poor depend on cheap energy sources like biomass which degrades the environment and rich are addicted to fossil fuels which causes climate change. The presentation ended with possible solutions related to energy efficiency, renewable energy and societal change.

IITAC is an association consisting of alumni from the 15 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) in India. It has a multi-pronged strategy to work and connect with Canadian and Indian academic and research institutions, industry and governments at the municipal, provincial and federal levels, and to create a collaborative environment for Canada, India and IITAC members.
