Antarctica is now losing about 160 billion tonnes of ice a year to the ocean – twice as much as when the continent was last surveyed.

If all the ice in Antarctica melts the rise in sea level would be 58 meters. Present loss is raising the sea level to about 4.3 cm per year and it is accelerating and irreversible .
