Protecting the Borders as well as ecosystems

Protecting the Borders as well as ecosystems

We all heard of heroic stories of Indian Army who protect our national borders. We are able to take quiet and undisturbed sleep only because of the soldiers that are awake to protect us. But have you heard of Indian army protecting our environment with the same spirit as they protect the national borders? Yes, they do it, so that our children and our Children’s children would be able to sleep quietly. Here is the award winning story! I salute the extraordinary efforts of 128 INF BN (Territorial Army) Eco Rajputana Rifles and congratulate them from bottom of my heart precisely for this reason. I was proud to be on the jury for the award. They recently won the Earth Care Award, institutionalized by Times of India and JSW in New Delhi. The soldiers came to receive the award. They received it with great pride but with military discipline by saluting the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Harsha...

From Doklam Dispute to Wuhan Warmth – Modi-Xi River Side Bromance

From Doklam Dispute to Wuhan Warmth is a dramatic shift. The literal meaning of Doklam is ‘rocky road’. ( written just before Modi-Xi informal summit in Wuhan )  26th April 2018: Whatever the conflicting realities on the ground, history has shown that both India and China have shared a dream of peaceful coexistence. That desire became stronger after the freedom of both the countries from foreign powers. There are clearly game-changing and long-term win-win opportunities for both India and China to build the bridges and to take collaborative initiative for global stewardship when PM Modi and President Xi meet in Wuhan. The recent dispute at Doklam became  Himalayan hot-spot from June to August in 2017. Chinese population, more than Indian,...

Rewarding Experience of Times of India and JSW Earth Care Awards 2018 What was it like? Being on the jury of Earth Care Awards 2018 was a mesmerizing journey and exploratory experience. Exploration was diving deep in the search of the best of those who are searching innovations and excellence.   The Key take away? The innovative and award winning solutions to the challenge of climate change can take place even in the remotest and the difficult terrains like Ladakh, Kutch  Rajasthan and South West Bangladesh. These inspirational examples demonstrate the power of the communities and potential of the committed individuals that could accelerate the actions to implement the SDGs.   What next? ECA awards’ potential is enormous and not yet fully tapped. The challenge of climate change demands much steeper and accelerated rise in commitment solutions, replication and commercialisation. Asian region, where two-third of rise in fossil fuel use for energy production in next two decades will enhance their carbon emissions more than leading industrialised countries. The deployment of modern technologies like...

Jane Hawking, who was divorced from Stephen in 1995 and whose book, Travelling to Infinity: My life with Stephen was adapted by Anthony McCarten to form the core of the movie. Here she talks about her relationship with Stephen Hawking. IT IS 1963, and we’re at a student party in Oxford. A young man approaches a young woman. “I’m a cosmologist,” he says. “What’s that?” “It’s religion for intelligent atheists.” You will have seen him on The Simpsons and Star Trek but you’ve never seen him like this. Stephen Hawking, the world’s most famous living scientist, as a young, able-bodied, ambitious student, chatting someone up. This is the beginning of The Theory of Everything, the story of Hawking’s exceptional life framed by the blossoming – and eventual withering – of romance with his first wife, then Jane Wilde. Straight away we are tipped off to the broad tone that the movie will take on their relationship: one of his godless cosmology, and of her more...
